Hi Jon,

Great distro, marvellous work! I have an eeePC 1000H and am having problems with the touchpad. Is there anyway to disable 'tap-to-click'? I'm new to Linux and it's infuriating constantly clicking when I don't mean to!

Thomas, I don't mind at all!

Charles, in short: yes :)

Anonymous, I haven't seen any tests yet, but I'll be sure to post them when people start benchmarking

For someone already running Ubuntu EEE 8.04 with adamm's custom kernel, (and it's fully tweaked), will the 8.04.1 installation provide any more functionality or compatibility with a model 901?

Gerrt, yes, Ubuntu Eee will be available in the same languages as Ubuntu - and that's a whole lot. Heia Norge!

Patrick, Nalle Berg, you can follow the development of Ubuntu Eee live here:

"So Ubuntu Eee 8.04.1 is released in about 72 hours."
Comment by Jon Ramvi — August 19, 2008 @ 11:45 am

According to that statement it should come today? Can anyone confirm that? I'd love to use this weekend to install it on my, my daughters (2 of them) and
my friends - we all got 900's.

Having four installs to do, it is nice that it comes on a Friday! I refer to my earlier post and do not want to rush anything - I'd just like to know.

That's right Edward, however before UNR was installed boot took near 45 scs to GDM.

Now, no-GDM login, around 1.10 to see gnome loaded, plus another 10-15 scs to complete UNR.

Adam tested this new kernel to be in the order of 20-23 scs (using a 900 I guess). Let's wait and see ...

Thank u Jon, but could not wait.
Installed stock 8.4.01 + Adam's new k + Ricey + all tweaks (hpet, no quiet boot, etc) + UNR on my 701 4g. Everything works fine, however boot time (Button pressed to UNR operational) still close to 85 seconds, just fyi.

all the best

Asle Ommundsen, thanks for the heads up! Will fix it as soon as 8.04.1 is out of the way.

tom.higgy, as it isn't ready and as I don't have an atom; I don't know yet. We will benchmark it when it's done :)

Kip Ingram, thanks and thanks for seeding!

Javier, Edward, Michael, I got a lot of work yesterday. The last problem is getting applications into the Netbook Remix favorites menu through terminal. If someone knows how, please share :) When that's done, I'll make an iso for myself - see if it's working. If I'm happy about it, I'll make a RC. If there's no complains the first 24 hours, the same iso goes gold! So Ubuntu Eee 8.04.1 is released in about 72 hours. I'm sorry about the late replies, but the time I've used by the computer have only been making-Ubuntu Eee-time.

Denis, the 900 is supported. You can be the one to check if the 900D is supported :) Thanks!

I'd like to add my words of thanks to those below for all your hard work so far. My eeepc 901 should be arriving tomorrow, and I look forward to throwing the new ubuntu-eee 8.04.1 on it as soon as possible. Any updates as to when we may expect it? (a popular question, it seems :) )

Which machine do you have? 8.04 was only designed for the 701 - there are fixes for the 901/1000. 8.04.1 should sort any issues. I hope... =8)

Dissapointed.

I was hoping that an Ubuntu distro that was specific to the eee would actually have wireless working "out of the box"

Imagine my frustration when the OS could not only not find the wireless card, but it can't find the ethernet card either.

An eee specific distro should have networking running 'out of the box'

Back to square one

Wow; I'm positively hanging on the edge of my seat over this. I just bought a 1000. I did ok with Xandros until I tried to make a Sprint PCS broadband card work. Installed Ubuntu Eee and it worked right away.

But there are the other issue that you all know about. 8.04 is working well enough for me to cobble along with, but I really look forward to right and proper support for this amazing little computer.

Thanks for all the hard work! I expect that torrent ratio you mentioned will flip upside down as soon as you release. I'll seed it and leave it seeded.

Awsum news on the 901 fixes!

Looks like there's a shortage of stock which means I've another week of waiting. It'll make it all the better!

How's the boot time on the atom?

Thank you! I will wait! :-)

(PS! Your RSS and Atom feeds don't work for me (i am using the Opera browsers built in feed reader). Also it gives errors displayed in the browser: «XML parsing failed: syntax error (Line: 0, Character: 0) – Error:unexpected end-of-file – Specification:http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/»)

Petter, I could make an RC with known bugs, but as we're all doing this on our free time, it's not something I prioritize as it's kind of a waste of time. I also like Nalle Berg's arguments ;)

Tommer, you don't Have to install Ubuntu Eee on a memory card. You can install it on the internal drive and have the SD slot free :)

As Adam again has amazed us not only with a great kernel but also a great development speed, Ubuntu Eee 8.04.1 is ready to be thrown together. Give me a couple of days and it's out :)

I remember Mozilla Firefox pre 1.0. They either didn't release to early. Wine used 15 years to reach 1.0.

Point being that that is actually one of the benefits with open source. They do not release till they're good and ready and then they can stand for the product.

So we really do not need a RC with known bugs. I agree 100% (if anyone should care) with the policy of waiting with the release till it's ready and working.

Tomas, yes, netbook remix will be default. We will however make it easy to remove it and use the regular desktop

Keith Childs, the process is easy. You move any files you don't want to loose to an usb stick. You make the ubuntu eee usb stick and just click next thought the whole installation process. This will format the drive and install ubuntu eee 8.04.1.

Great work and looking forward to it.With 8.04 already installed on a EeePC 900 will there be a wiki page explaining the steps to uninstall this before installing 8.04.1? I'm assuming this is what has to happen- or if you have enough space can you do the uninstall later?

Great work, Jon, I am very excited with this new release. I will expect also the SD card ^^ and I think that it will be my main EEE OS, with a full operating system in a full working small computer, the EEE 701.
