ubuntu-eee.com v1.5 released

We got a lot for help making an Ubuntu Eee feature page. Thank you! Dani’s work is now not only a feature work but also our front page. Looks great – thanks Dani :)

Iuri has taken the time to make us a donation page where the Ubuntu Eee logo is filled up with donations in real time. This will go live soon as well

With the release of the new donation page, Planet Ubuntu Eee, a download page and a forum we’re up at ubuntu-eee.com v2.0 :)

John Attard, got you on my list here. It’s on it’s way soon enough.
Thank you for your patience

David, we’re waiting as long as possible with the re-branding.

I agree with Austin. Now it’s impossible to me use the EEE without Ubuntu EEE 8.04.1. And well, I like the Notebook Remix interface ^^

I hope I don’t sound like a wanker, but I have to say that I am alot happier with the previous version (8.04).
Why? Because the new version has too many things missing (like compiz) and it is a lot more slugish on my 900 than the previous version (even with fancy windows effects running).
These kind of effects should not be underestimated, since they contribute to a more pleasant user experience than blacked out windows that leave a trail of ghost windows when moving them about.

I am extremly happy with the previous 8.04 version though.
It is the best system I’ve found for my 900.

In my opinion the netbook remix interface should not be default but an option that is easy to get (yes, I know how to remove it), and I do not find that kind of interface usefull unless you do not know how to navigate on a computer. It actually slows me down a lot compared to a normal interface. (some of my friends thinks that it is absurd not to be able to put their own desktop picture on their computer, at least they have not figured out how to do that, the interface is allways in the way)

You point out that the new kernel is much faster at bootup.
For me that is a non-issue/not important. It is the speed you get after bootup that is important, and my experience is that the 8.04.1 version is actually a lot slower than the previous 8.04 version when running normal tasks.
If there is a difference at bootup time,I can’t be more than 5-10 seconds difference between the two systems (on my 900).

I’m sorry to say that I will stick to the previous version for now. Because I’m so god damn happy about it!!! THANKS!
I hope you find this post usefull instead of annoying.
Keep on keeping on!

Woot! Love the progress here. Already excited for the next release….

How’s the new logo and new release name coming up?

@walt -

The Ubuntu eee install does not have Thunderbird but you can easily install it through synaptic or apt-get. I’m running Ubuntu eee on my 901 and I’ve got Thunderbird installed and working great.

Comment by Aevin — September 25, 2008 @ 3:29 pm

This is clearly the best install for my 901. My only question is, is there a support forum. I want to get a 875U 3g card to work with this version, and I can’t seem to. Where would I look for help?

Comment by Gregory Cohen — September 25, 2008 @ 1:19 am

I wanted to thank you for making my 901 functional. It’s like night and day compared to the default xandros.

Comment by Austin — September 25, 2008 @ 12:55 am

eeeUbuntu 8.04.1 installed in my new 901 now.

Very nice!!

I tried the latest release by running it off a CD. It doesn’t have Thunderbird. Can Thunderbird be installed?? How?

I need to know this before I actually install it. I am running the prior version and it works fine.

Nice new website, gives the project a professional image. However – we need a forum! I bet you have enough of a user base to warrant it.

I swear (sigh) I won’t turn my eepc on when i get home and go straight to sleep !!

Comment by jean-yves — September 23, 2008 @ 4:54 pm

I’ve got 8.04.1 running on an Eee PC 900 and the “lock screen” won’t unlock. Any fix yet?

Comment by Velhoon — September 23, 2008 @ 3:58 pm

Nice new feature page, but it does not work with Chrome :-(

Comment by LondonDweller — September 23, 2008 @ 9:32 am

using ubuntueee on my freshly purchased 1000h… works brilliant so far… thanks for the effort… the new front page looks great…

Comment by Pistooli — September 23, 2008 @ 7:52 am

Please add “clear:both” to the style of the table-tag, then the page layout should be correct (tested Firefox2 and Firebug).

Comment by Rones — September 22, 2008 @ 9:17 pm

Looks great!

Comment by Xenon — September 22, 2008 @ 8:09 pm

Looks great from the screen shot to the left of my comment posted here.

Although using Safari 3.1.2 everything is dropped off to the RIGHT-hand margin.

Please advise?
