Hello,
I am trying to get a new portable and the EEE PC is a very good portable and I like ubuntu. I will use the portable to programing stuff (php, XAMP, etc). Is ubuntu eee suporting that?
Is EEE PC suporting ubuntu distribution (no ubuntu eee)?

Having tried a number of other, eee customised distros, this looks the most promising yet. Would be nice to get some of the wrinkles ironed out, such as volume control working from keys,and minmising ssd writes as part of install. Can’t wait for next release!

For me a huge problem! At attempt to install ubuntu on mine asus eee 900, have clear bysybox (no errors). I use installation with flash disk drive, all has carried out according to the instruction!

Hi! I have an Asus EEE PC 900 and I installed Ubuntu EEE on it. Actually I have a problem, my webcam doesn’t work properly. Each time I try to use it with my contacts, it causes crashes on other people’s MSN. It does not work neither with aMsn or with Skype. Do You know what should I do? Thanks

Jon, you were right, there’s more under the hood in 8.04.1 than NBR. I gathered a bit of courage yesterday and installed the new version. What a great surprise: wi-fi, shutdown, reduced boot time… it was all there! Great!

There are still a few glitches that are annoying me, though. Fn + Volume keys don’t work (even though OSD appears). Fn + F2 doesn’t turn wi-fi antenna off. Ordinary solutions in wiki.eeeuser.com don’t work (except for automounting the SD, that didn’t work out-of-the box). Also, mic doesn’t seem not to work either.

Other than that, it does run better than original Ubuntu EEE, as you said back there. It actually seems more like an actual Ubuntu install: localisation is great (in 8.04 OpenOffice’s interface didn’t automatically went to Brazilian Portuguese, and dictionaries had to be manually installed), boot time is decent (45s sharp here), etc.

By the way, you should take a look at http://polishlinux.org/linux/ubuntu/whats-new-in-ubuntu-810/. Those guys point out to a repository carrying the brand-new Ubuntu network tool, which has support for GSM (GPRS and 3G) internet connection. I tested it in 8.04 and it worked smoothly, although it doesn’t anymore in 8.04.1 (but I can’t blame Ubuntu EEE yet, my cell phone operator is moody).

Great job on the design of this version of ubuntu. 8.0.4.1 runs great on my 700 using the live cd, however I’m having trouble installing it on my 2g surf – install gives me a not enough disk space error about 3/4 of the way into the install – any suggestions?

Hi I installed ubuntu eee 8.04.1 on my eee pc 701, everything works fine except for the microphone. It’s enables in the bios. this error comes up when I cick on sound recorder. Also the wifi led doesn’t turn off if I disable it. Could you help?

I got webcam working by enabling it from BIOS. WLAN was already enabled. So at now my WLAN card isnt recognised by ubuntu-eee-8.04.1. I have an ASUS 900 bought in Italy. Thanks for any help

Hello guys. I just installed Gold 8.04.1. It looks pretty stable and I like it. But at now I have 1) no wifi 2) no webcam 3) neither switch screen working. Any idea?

God, Ubuntu-eee is good! With the RC2 installed my PC900 is transformed into a little gem. Many thanks to Jon & all involved in its development.

It is just IMPOSSIBLE to get ~five of the torrent’s chunks correctly. I download those last chunks, my transmission says everything is ok and download finished, but I get the md5 from the .iso and it is all different from the one in the wiki. I then ask transmission to verify the data, and it starts downloading the last chunks again. This just happened me over and over again. Very frustrating.

And that’s enough to make unetbootin not work correctly and if you do the manual way, you’ll get filled by random errors.

Breno Peck, are your questions in comparison to 8.04 or 8.04.1 development snapshots. 8.04.1 boots faster than 8.04. Wifi works out of the box. Suspending works. Mounting SD after suspend should be working. Camera is working. Mic is working on some Eee versions. There’s a lot more under the hood than just netbook remix. I installed a prior version of 8.04 and it works fine. Is there any reason I should upgrade to “Gold.” A list of advantages over the old install would be helpful so that people like me could make an informed decision.

I installed it yesterday on my EeePC 4G and I admit that I am really amazed what you’ve done.

Just some questions and I think some of them were already mentioned here:

1. What about Webcam and Audio? The Microphone doesn’t work and the Webcam neither.
Also, it resets the volume to full every restart what is not too usefull if the speaker blow everything away with the log-in screen sound… ;)

2. Is it correct that the PPA from the netbook remix team is not included in the sources.list? There is another package archive which is not in the standard Ubuntu, is that yours to give us updates?

3. Well, the Wiki… it seems to be a little bit old. For example the article to autoconfig the EeePC with script, I don’t know whether this is still for the 8.04.1 or not, I don’t want to destroy my system…
I would love to help you by writing good articles, but I have no information about anything.

4. Is there something like.. a forum, irc channel, mailing list or so to ask for help? I couldn’t find something yet (or I’m to stupid to find it).

So, how good is the Gold release running? Did boot time improve? Does wi-fi work out-of-the-box? What about suspending? And mounting SD and USB after suspend? How about camera and microphone?

If the only thing improved was Netbook Remix… well, I’ve already got it running under 8.04, so there would be no need to upgrade.

- WIRELESS appears to WORK !?

- Does the Documentation on page http://ubuntu-eee.com/index.php5?title=EeePC_901

need to be updated ??

- The Shutdown still does Not work, so maybe it would be good it the Doc was updated to more accurately reflect what DOES and what DOES NOT work ?

- It looks WONDERFUL and runs quite well from cheap USB stick

I downloaded the latest torrent version last night on to my windows desktop (i’m new and am using my eeepc 900 to learn about Linux). When unziping the folder my version of Avast reported a Trojan Virus! Is this likely?

Downloaded from sourceforge.
Used unetbootin to create a bootable USB stick.
Booted form USB.
Benn dropped to BusyBox kernel (initramfs). Stuck there.

I installed the final release. Nothing seems to work! Webcam, microphone, Internet connection… The sound recorder would not even start. Same problems after second download+installation. Am I doing something wrong?!
(I am using an EEE 4G.)

Why no upgrade path? I have installed and tweaked quite a few things on the system level after installing 8.04 and would like to keep them rather than have to redo them. Will there be an upgrade option or will I have to do my work twice?

Sonat , they’re exactly the same. I don’t know why the megabyte is different. Must be different ways for calculating (like when you view properties in Windows it says: Size and Size on disk)

It seems that the file on SourceForge is of size 623MB but the torrent version is smaller, namely 606MB. Why is there a difference? I can only use the direct download.

I downloaded Ubuntu Eee 8.04.1 yesterday, and the size of the ISO is 606 MB 606 MB (636 160 000 byte) — is this version affected with the problem, or is it the latest version including the fix?

I just want to be 100% sure. Thank you!
