Hi I still haven’t received my ubuntu card. Its been awhile since I viewed your website. Did you send them out yet. I’m the one in NJ. I was one of the first to donate. Please Let me Know whats going on. Thank You

I have been trying to donate using the form linked to below, but even though the page says (donate, you don’t need a paypal acount” I get a paypal error when I try. I really want to give you $50 and get an SD Ubuntu-eee in reply, but can’t figure out how to give you miney.

Installing ubuntu-eee to an SD card which boots on the asus eeepc is very simple. I copied the ubuntu-eee iso to my hard-drive, installed unetbootin and p7zip-full, inserted SD using a USB adaptor, made it bootable with gparted and then ran unetbootin. I also created a 1.2 Gb partition to store files etc. Slow booting but it is worth the wait. This allows my friends to try it without installing it. :)

Are there straight instructions on putting Ubuntu-eee on such SD card from a CD ? I have an external USB CD/DVD drive, as well as some of those cards. My only issue is that international shipments are subjects to all kinds of taxes and custom crap. I’d rather make a donation if I can have a straight way to place it directly on my own SD card.

steve, that’s really hard to say. First of all; Ubuntu Eee 8.04.1 isn’t ready yet.
Second; our first 10 cards have been reserved for the first 10 donators, but we will (of cause) order more.
And lastly, I don’t know how long it will take to get it to you.

But OK, let’s make a guesstimate:
8.04.1; ready in half a month
Order new cards; a week
Postage; a week (Norway to Steve)

So my guesstimate is 4 weeks.
Please donate – we won’t push 8.04.1 until it’s totally awesome ;) That’s why you’ll have to wait a little while to get your hands on it.

If it’s flawless or almost flawless for You is also hard to say. I’m going to write a post on what you can expect from 8.04.1. You’ll get all horny and stuff

Can you please clarify if Ubuntu Eee will support all the Eee PC variants? As you know, the 700 has a 7″ screen, the 900 has a 8.9″ screen, the 901 has the same screen as the 900, but a different wireless card etc…

Hardware isn’t the same on all the Eee PCs, so is Ubuntu Eee targeting only the first generation of Eee PCs, or will it cover the 2nd and 3rd generations as well?

Urban Strata, thank you. People have said that class 6 SD cards give the same feel as the SSD when it comes to speed. So that’s what we’ve gone for. When it comes to out-of-the-box support, we’re focusing on full support of the 701 and 900 versions before we’re move on to the 901 and 1000 versions.

First of all, GREAT job on Ubuntu Eee. I’ve been using it on my 701 4G for a couple weeks and love it — just waiting for true webcam support. ;-)

The SD card idea is great. Just wondering:

1. How will access speeds compare between running the OS on SD as opposed to the SSD?

2. Will Ubuntu Eee 8.04.1 support the new 901 and 1000(H) out of the box?

Anonym, sorry, but it isn’t done yet. You don’t have to donate anything to get it when it’s out. But IF you donate, you get one of these cards when you donate more than 50$. That’s the idea :)

Ubuntu Eee 8.04.1 will be as free as any other linux distributions. This is just an alternative to downloading it and putting it on a stick yourself where you get to donate to the project
