Folks, go to Ubuntu eee wiki and ‘recent changes’ to see updates from nominees. Sorry, no direct link because comments with url gets filtered and waiting Jon’s approval. Before Xmas I posted a comment where I tried to remind nominees to use upper case first letters in Easy Peasy because of easy.com’s trademark policy (see previous blog post).

I like dambs’ one… I’m not a fan of the lemon motif, though I do like the “Easy Peasy” name.

First logo to catch my eye is CS – then i figured out that it reminded me of Fring’s icons. Nevertheless, CS gets my first vote, followed by elfor.

Logo – Nominees submissions

I sent my new submissions this morning and I look the page tonight : nothing. I search and find : “removed [by ramvi] – not nominated” !?…
but I, as Chandra, read my name in the list of the 60 nominees… So what ?

I like elfor’s the best, there’s just something about the simple 2d layout that feels right to me. Second best to me is dambs logo, reminds me of a machine tool collet for a small piece. macs logo doesn’t even convey the image of an lemon, it looks more like orange juice in some kind of glass container with a mint leaf in the top. cs’ logo is cool, seems kind of asian in design.

I really like damb’s design but wonder about the image (it made me think of Mercedes cars). Mind you if that means high quality and reliability then that may not be a bad thing?

Mac’s design was great but would be better if the “lemon squeezy” sub-text was changed to “for netbooks” or similar.

Chris’ design was also great but left me wondering what it was for. On looking at it a second time I realised that it was actually a very clever amalgam of the letter “e” and an image of netbook PC.

Could we see how Damb’s logo would look with some kind of lemon rather than the pie chart?

I think you should use capital letters and space in Easy Peasy to avoid problems with easy.com.

I know criticism is hard to hear, but it makes stuff better. All of these graphics are great for beating the competition here. Here goes my thoughts and opinions on these current iterations, in case it helps any of these artists…

I think I like macs’ the best. Even though I get the Easy Peasy (Lemon Squeezy), I think the second part is best left unsaid, and just implied by the lemon. (Which I really like BTW!) I like how there is room for the extra text there though, so rather than taking it out altogether, perhaps put text there saying “for netbooks” or “OS for netbooks” or something like that. It would be good to add that especially while Easy Peasy is still entering the culture’s consciousness as a brand.

dambs’ logo has a cool font and style for the letters, but the pie chart seems to close off the demographic to much toward business use. (IMO)

I’m just not a fan of elfor’s lemon. Maybe it’s because it’s on a white background, maybe it would be better just on it’s own without the white. I don’t know, something about it just doesn’t feel right. It could be good with tweaking though, because I like the overall style. Not sure what hits me wrong about it.

cs’ logo is such a cool idea! I love how it changes and everything. Really terrific stuff! But how do I know it’s “Easy Peasy”? I’d love to see the name worked into the logo somehow.

Lastly, I really like the idea of a “Professor Easy”, but how does he turn into a logo? That’s something I’d like to see.

Can’t wait to see all the updates!

@CS – The box is not necessary at all. Also, I think some lemon would be okay after all. Therefore yellow laptop and one drop-like eye could be nice. But yellow color does not stand out well from white background. Maybe green background box or some other shape could be nice. I noticed Jon chanced the image on this page, so the bottom one of your laptops seen here has absolutely the best shape. There’s enough e and p in it, and the smile is really nice :) So, maybe one drop-eyed yellow lappie on green background could work.

@Dambs – Your logo is quite good as well, but what is it?

@Andy & Marc – I hope you are not talking about professor like seen on Microsoft Word assistants. Of course Jon decides what he want but I wish to see something concrete from you.

@others – The reason why I like so much of the logos by CS is because I think logo should tell about the product. Operating system has no shape but laptop with smiling face is close enough. Definitely the product is not a lemon.

@Jon – Could you/we ask nominees to send their improved ideas on wiki? It would be nice to follow the progress.

well, congrats to the nominees. All fantastic efforts. I’d say I prefer the one from cs myself, but they’re all rather good. CS designs are easily the most marketable ones in my (extremely humble) opinion.

Thanks, Serola and ubun_two! You guys had some good ideas too. I liked what you both did with the e and the p in Serola’s face designs and ubun_two’s lemons. Very elegant and simple.

@Serola: I’ve been experimenting with more laptop-ish happy e’s. I meant the happy laptops to look kind of like both an e and a p with the stem bent over, but that’s not so obvious. I’ll work some more on the out-of-the-box idea, too – maybe make #3 look both happy and unboxed, since it’s in the box right now. Good suggestion.

Does anybody know where the idea for lemon’s came from? I’m having a hard time figuring out why so many of the submissions featured them.

I like #2 the best, but I see #4 being the most versatile of the group as of now. Looking forward to the improved revisions.

@ CS, yes combine the “netbook in the box” and smiling netbook, but try some of the eyes you used in your other submits. Eyes given for Easy Peasy coming out of the box would definately make it work. I thought this in my logo submits a lot. Should the screen be dark or bright? Certaily there should be something on the screen, because you want to see it works!

I love the logos by CS :D
Especially the third one on Cs-logo-2.gif is nice. There’s what everyone like to see: Easy Peasy powered netbook working out of the box! Also origins can been seen: a white Eee PC. Also the smiling lappie is cool. @ CS, how about combining the third and fourth logos…
