  1. ,

A name with all the maturity of a Porky’s movie. Nice work.

Very glad Ubuntu EEE software is a nice piece of work (at least through 8.04). If I came upon something called Easy Peasy I wouldn’t install it on my toaster oven.

  2. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS! The absolute worst name I have ever heard of! Nothing wrong with the logo…JUST THE NAME! Find something more intelligent…

  3. I think, the name easypeasy ist not the best idea for the name. There exists some domains with this name: easypeasy.com or easypeasy.ie for example and i don’t know if this could be a problem with the trademark of this name in the future.

  4. I have not checked in here for a while (I gave up on the Asus EEE 1000 temporarily, for reasons I blogged about here: http://wombatdiet.net/2008/12/18/its-the-keyboard-stupid/) but I have to say my jaw dropped at this hilarious bit of branding. It is indeed babytalk and conveys a 100% unprofessional image (the name would suit baby wipes for netbooks (for busy mumsy wumsies perhaps?).

This will not be salvaged with a cutesy logo. The whole concept seems patronizing. It belongs on the same scrapheap as those other sucky lemons: Microsoft Bob and Clippy.

I suggest going back to the drawing board.

  6. I think a good name would be Axion, which is a type of subatomic particle, indicating smallness and power. Or maybe second choice Lepton, a light subatomic particle. Or name it in honor of the Large Hadron collider project, the most ambitious physics project humanity has ever undertaken. Perhaps call it the Small Hadron operating system. No worries about name infringement either. Please don’t name it EasyPeasy. Besides Lemon squeezy makes me queezy, and makes me feel like I want to vomit.

  7. Jon, your eeePC remix is unique and deserves good branding. But branding is full of traps (as you have seen), several of which have opened up for “Easy Peasy”, e.g. 1. for proficient speakers of English, “easy peasy lemon squeezy” is simply babytalk and does not match the product; 2. a lemon often signifies low quality; 3. infringement of other trademarks seems likely; 4. customer appeal seems to have been neglected, judging by the many appalled comments. The name may catch on anyway (maybe as EZPC), who knows? But please check what the experts, e.g. at http://www.lexicon-branding.com do, before finalising.

  8. I’ve been counting the days until the release of Ubuntu-eee, but…. Sorry, an OS named “easy pissy” will probably never be installed in my ASUS Eee. (I can imagine what comments I would have to hear) Compared to that name, even my own suggestion, Ub(untu)f(o)r eee (and others) “Ubfree”, feels like a soundminded alternative.
Call it “A pice of cake” to refer to the simpliness and make the logo look like a slice of cake or a muffin. Anything but “easy pissy” please!

  9. This logo will be perfect the minute that lemon squeezy returns to the market……

For a linux distro? I just don’t whether to laugh or cry; It’ll NEVER get preinstalled by any manufacturer with such a stupid name.

If there were oscars for the worst marketing this logo and name would surely be a hot candidate. It just doesn’t work on any level. Still perhaps an unbranded fork will emerge.. here’s hoping!

  10. Easypeasy?? Only a semiprotomoron could have come up with such an embarrassing, awful sounding abortion of a name.

  11. Hi,

    “OS for netbooks”.
and “lemon squeezy” sound good as a motto but easy peasy…
something has to be done with that name.

    There is still time.
It could be anything…so many combinations.

    Think about it.

  12. Um, if easy.com doesn’t like your site (and I think their email is questionable), what in the world do you think easypeasy.com will think of your project? Their logo is green lowercase one-word with a yellow lemon.

Oh, and the name is still stupid. We appreciate the work you’re doing to better support netbooks but these marketing decisions give the impression that your marketing skills aren’t as great as your programming skills.

  13. Congratulations!

That’s a great logo to choose. It’s bright, clean, simple, and straight forward as well! “OS for netbooks”.

I hope the rebranded OS on the insides will, somehow, get a green and yellow GTK+/metacity theme that looks great as well!

  15. Cool Logo.

@Serola – Apple did pretty well using a fruit. Plus logos are supposed to be simple and widely recognizable. Everybody eats. Not everyone eats Kiwi, or Lemon – but most people are at least familiar with the concept of fruit. No less Linux or computer related than a penguin. I’m not saying fruit should always be used, or that it’s even the best choice, (I would have prefered one of the logos that played off the netbook theme, personally), but it does make some sense.

  16. Congratulations Massimo :) Very nice and simple enough logo!

Personally I still don’t understand why to brand OS with something edible (e.g. mint, lemon, kiwi, berry; found at distrowatch.com).

  17. I love the NEW logo:
