well, First off, I'd like to thank all the very nice people for making this remix......over all the experience so far has been mostly positive, with just a few bugs...I had to run the install program three times before it seemed to be working properly...I did get one or two odd errors ("can't write system files to disk" was one )...once the OS was installed, onto a dual boot 1000ha that had xp on one partition already, everything worked except the wireless, which seemed to struggle to log on to my wireless router sitting four feet away...once connected, it did not work at all. I followed some of the suggestions on line and installed wicd and removed network manager, and now everything seems to work just great......maybe not quite as responsive as I'd like, but no slouch either..looking forward to working with it a lot!!!

Thanx again...

Hi,
you are doing a great job with ubuntu-eee.
I have a suggestion, don't limit your work only to asus notebook, include the original ubuntu kernel so other people (like me, with my MSi WIND U100) can use ubuntu-eee.
Another suggestion..publish the configuration file used in you very fast kernel...so anyone can start from a point and make a kernel optimized for his machine..
BTW..ubuntu-eee work fine with MSi wind, wit the exception of LAN (wireless don't work out of the box in original ubunto too) and bluetooth.

How about replacing OpenOffice with AbitWord and Gnumeric. Smaller, faster, and just as capable. I don't have space for bloat on a 4GB drive...

Malcolm Bastien, sorry about the late reply! The feature page and the new donation page will be separate pages. What meets you when you go to ubuntu-eee.com and there's a huge link to the wiki

Now have you though about whether you'll integrate a features page into the wiki at ubuntu-eee.com? Or instead create a different front-end to ubuntu-eee separate from the wiki on something like a Wordpress platform?

Personally, I think it's the little things that'd do it. Like using "elevator=noops" in grub for SSD based EEE's. How'd you'd go about scripting that... I don't know.
Remix would also be a good place to go as would, perhaps having scripts to automate the squashing of /usr... even supply the squashfs+lzma stuff for extra packing.

sponge, thanks a lot! Can you email me or upload the source somewhere? I will merge your page with the javascript from Ubuntu's feature page which Stamat has fixed.

Had a little extra bored time, so I whipped something up:

Let me know what you think. If you want to use it as is, or use it as a base or whatever, feel free.

i guess u want to target existing Linux users and new eeepc users who might not have Linux experience.

saying that it works seamlessly with Windows and Apple machines is a bit ambiguous (& misleading) - perhaps something like good compatibility with most Windows/Mac OSX file formats (ie. .... ) to ensure a smooth transition or something

-Simple but full-featured desktop that you can easily build around (installing the appropriate software) for your own need

-emphasize the good things about Netbook remix

-emphasize your <2GB installation size

-not much tweaking required for the EEE hardware

-outstanding community support from your wiki/Ubuntu forum or something?

roastroe, please write in English - and please direct your question to our help department: http://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eee
I'm afraid I don't know how to solve your problem.

Stamat, thanks a lot! If you would be so great as to change the screen to an asus eee, I'll write in some features and make some screenshots.

I haven't gotten any feedback on what to include though

I've just installed Ubuntu eee on my brand new Asus eeePC 900, with Adam's dedicated kernel and the experimental "Ubuntu Notebook Remix" applets from the repos of the Ubuntu team which is developing them.
I must see ... it's really fun-tastic!!
Personally I've appreciated all the features I've found, and I wanto to add these apps: GnuCash, Wesnoth, Wi-Fi finder, Brasero, OpenOffice Base and Math.
But, on the other side, a very small version of Ubuntu, like the existing Puppy Linux dedicated to the eeePC, might be nice to try, too. With apps less "heavy" than OOo, Firefox & TB, and/or the possibility to choose which apps to install or not among them.
