Ubuntu Eee 8.04 has been out for almost a month (25 days). Here’s a little bit of statistics to keep everyone in the loop and – to show off :)
We started a fan page on Facebook a couple of days ago, and there’s already 71 fans! We could work towards getting a better sex ratio though. If you’ve got a female friend with an Asus Eee, help her install Ubuntu Eee and get her onto the fan page ;)
Bittorrent
The torrent was only hosted by Ubuntu Eee for a couple of days. Since then only the community has kept it alive. And talk about life! As we speak it’s being seeded by 77 people and downloaded by 5. That means there are 15 hosts / seeders for every downloader! Thanks guys and girls!
Google Trends
Is Ubuntu Eee comparable to Ubuntu? No, not at all. But Ubuntu Eee is comparable with some of the other Linux distributions over at DistroWatch’s Top 10 list! Ubuntu Eee is more popular than number 5: PClinuxOS, number 8: Dreamlinux, number 9: Sabayon and Mark Shuttleworth (creator of Ubuntu).

So what does all this sum up to? How many people around the globe use Ubuntu Eee 8.04 every day? The statistics system over at Sourceforge have been down for half a month. But if Ubuntu Eee has been downloaded as the same pace as I’ve got statistics for, Ubuntu Eee has now been downloaded from Sourceforge almost 15 000 times!
Ubuntu Eee has been downloaded almost 5 000 times from Bittorrent. So by now Ubuntu Eee 8.04 has been downloaded 17 714 times.
We have a survey running (been running for two days). Already we have about 50 responses. The (early) responds tells us that for every download, it’s installed on 1.32 machines.
This means that Ubuntu Eee 8.04 got 23 381 users
which is a whole lot more than we could ever have hoped for!

First of all, Congratulations for your hard work, and thanks a million!!
I’m very happy after installed ubuntu eee 8.04 with the patch/script… of course it need improvement, like webcam and some other things, but in general is the best for the eeepc!
so, looking forward to these improvements ;)
Thanks!
Did you remove or comment out the cdrom line in /etc/fstab ?
The problem is that the system is trying to locate the cdrom drive
Congratulations and thanks a lot for the hard work!
I finally made a donation. You guys earned every peny and I plan to make anothers.
Thanks
by the way, I am having problems with the SD Card. It never mounts. I did not found a thing about it on the pages. I did not run the RiceeeyTweak since everything else is working so nice that I am afraid of further installations…
I noticed you as well, Eirik Newth; Symbian phone with an external keyboard – even smaller than an Eee ;)
I was working on putting ads up on the blog: since than I’ve got one (1) click!
@Leif Harboe, heisann – der var plutselig du og! Tenkte pÃ¥ deg her om dagen.
Artig, kommer over bloggen via Eirik Newths Twitter. SÃ¥ det er det som holder deg busy. Bra!
I actually saw this site being edited on the train from Kristiansand yesterday. Young guy, in the seat next to me, working on a Macbook Pro with Ubuntu, via his Bluetooth phone.Cool!
I use Ubuntu as my main OS on my Thinkpad, and will of course consider it when I get an Eee. :-)
Well done guys you have a lot to be proud of here. Thanks for the hard work!!!
I honestly can not say enough about how easy and enjoyable Ubuntu-Eee + RiceeeyTweak has made my EeePC 701 4G experience! I have tried many other distros, but yours is the most satisfactory. While I appreciate the team’s determination to do even better with 8.10, I really see nothing inadequate with your 8.04 release. It thoroughly rocks! Jon(& team), I owe you bigtime ;) Can you say, “Donation”?!
Thanks very much for your great work!!!
Nice numbers.
And I belive things will improve for 8.10 release, because we’ll have more people working on it, and it will be much more customized than the 8.04 release :)
Congratulations to all ubuntu-eee developers and helpers!
